A Tiny Update + Artwork

(Sort Sol by Tanja Gotthardsen, 2011)

Hi lovelies,

so, I’m in the midst of exam-chaos, I hope you’ll excuse my absence :) The blog is after all my creative oasis – and without time to be thoroughly creative.. it makes no sense to make posts about nothing.

Today I want to share a very special piece with you. It was done in March last year, for a person that is at the center of everything I do. My grandmother. She raised me, gave me an incredible amount of love (sometimes I feel like I’m bubbling over with love, I can’t contain it), gave me values and the strenght to stand my ground. To make her proud has been my motivation, and it still is. She died of cancer in October, and ever since I have felt a little bereaft. But she’s always around, in some sense.

The drawing was done for her 70th Birthday, but I got it done almost six months early. The idea just came to me, and I had to do it. And quite luckily she got to enjoy it for some months. She didn’t survive until her 70th birthday, she died the week before. When we got the diagnosis I gave her the drawing, for strenght. I had it custom framed.

I come from a part of Denmark where you occassionally can see the starlings gathering together, flying in formations over the marshland. It’s really beautiful, and it was a sight we shared many times. My grandmother did not enjoy great freedom in her life, and the birds represent the freedom we always dreamt of, together. Starlings are not the most beautiful birds seen from afar, but together they’re astonishing. And up close, they have so many beautiful patterns. And they have each other. Saying it with a big smile, she now has wings of her own. And they’re beautiful :)

While I’m Busy #2

I wanted to share another beautiful song with you, like I did last month right here!

I find it so beautiful and inspiring. It’s one of those songs I return to.

I went to see the latest Pedro Almodóvar film on saturday, and it was amazing! And inspiring! And completely uncanny as always :) So in relation to the music video above, I’ll just say, that if you haven’t enjoyed the latest Almodóvar film “La Piel Que Habito”, please do so! I admire Spanish cinema for it’s mix of directness and the obscurities of the human mind.

Gift from PaperNomad

In Gifts & Tests, Inspiration on February 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Hello lovelies,

So, it’s been a while. I’ve been busy doing university-stuff. Enough said, right?

Ah yes, a couple of weeks ago, I received a wonderful gift from PaperNomad, and I’m thrilled about the concept. I discovered their products in October, and kept visiting the page, hoping that they would come up with an Iphone sleeve. (They’d already done sleeves for Ipad, Ipod and Blackberry) I left a question on their blog, and a couple of days later, an email appeared in my inbox – they’d visited the blog, liked what they saw and wanted to give me their brand-new Iphone sleeve as a gift! I can’t begin to describe how flattered I am :)

Now, the really cool thing about these sleeves is, that you can draw on them. Decorate them to your hearts content. They’re made of paper and cotton (correct me if I’m wrong), designed with respect for the environment (Mhhhm, organic materials… mhmmm).. just perfect :) And water doesn’t seem to be a problem either! For more on the PaperNomads go here! Normally I don’t consider myself easy to impress, but this caught me from the beginning. The philosophy is wonderful and the quality of the product is quite beyond my expectations.

I just noticed, that they’ve submitted the new sleeves to their webshop! Macbook sleeves as well! Now, mine has a nice little ‘Beta’ mark on the back.. and beta-testers test… and after my testing I say: “go for it!”

I’ll get back to you as soon as I’ve doodled some more! I’ll work on it as I go ;)

While I’m busy

As I’m returning to my studies in less than a week, I’m currently doing a lot of reading – a thereby not a whole lot of drawing.

Here however, is a wonderful and in my opinion very inspiring little thing. As I’m a huge Peter Gabriel and Genesis fan, this song suits me to no end.

Have a lovely day!

Yours,

T
